FAQ

  • What is the shelf life of your cleansing powder?

The product shelf life is 24 months (unopened) but we recommend using the product within 6 months of opening for optimal quality, performance and aroma.

  • Is the powder face and body wash safe to use on all skin types?

Yes, our powder face and body wash is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin. However, if you have any allergies or known skin conditions, please consult with your dermatologist before using the product.

  • How do I use the powder face and body wash?

Wet your hand, then dispense a small amount of powder into your palm. Mix with water to create a foamy lather, then apply to your skin and massage gently. Rinse off thoroughly with water.

  • Is the product suitable for vegans?

Yes. Our product is free from animal products and raw materials derived from animal products. Our formula contains plant-derived, algal-derived or nature-identical raw materials.

  • Can I use the powder face and body wash if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

While our powder face and body wash does not contain any harmful ingredients, we recommend consulting with your doctor before using any new skincare products during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

  • Can I use the powder face and body wash on my hair?

Although the raw materials used in the cleansing powder product are gentle enough to be used on the hair we haven’t formulated this product as a haircare product.

  • How many washes do I get out of one bottle?

Of course, it does very much depend on how crazily one likes to lather. If you like to batter yourself in suds or, on the flip side, prefer to keep your soap bar until it shows all signs of the pensioner - cavern wrinkles and the like, our number may not be accurate for you. If you fall somewhere in the middle, the following number will resonate. One bottle of Taverner Cleansing Powder will last for 47 full-body washes from our trials.

  • I have extreme allergies and sensitive skin, can I still use your cleansing powder?

People react differently to different products. People can experience allergic reactions or sensitisation to synthetics and natural materials alike. If you do have reason to believe you may be sensitive to products we recommend patch testing prior to use, particularly as our product contains essential oils. Please reach out to us if you would like to see the release of a fragrance-free version and we will do our best to accommodate.

  • Is the product tested on animals?

No. We have documented declarations or Leaping Bunny assurance from all of our suppliers that the supply chain for each raw material used is cruelty free.
Please note: There are regulations in some regions that still require testing on animals for GHS and Safety Data Sheet compliance – these are legislative safety stipulations out of our control. This overarches all brands whether they claim cruelty free or not. We hope this changes in the future as cruelty-free awareness continues to drive industry and push for alternative safety testing methods.

  • Does your product contain preservative?

Yes. Despite many beliefs, powders can be hygroscopic and harbour microbes over time. After an in-depth review of possible options we decided to include a safe, nature-identical preservative blend. This ensures longevity and prevents microbial and mould contamination of the product, particularly as the intended use is in water-based environments, showers and the like.

  • Can the product be used directly in natural waterways?

No. Biodegradable means that the product will break down due to biological action and UV, but, as with most foreign materials, natural or not, it will harm aquatic life if used directly in streams, ponds and lakes. Practice Leave No Trace and wash / dispose of waste water 200ft / 70m from any water source. No soap or surfactant (eco-friendly or not) should be used directly in rivers or lakes.

  • Does the product stain?

Blue spirulina is what gives the powder cleanser its colour. Blue spirulina is primarily made up of phycocyanins which are water-soluble. This product has been tested on white cotton and rinses out easily without staining.

  • Do you use artificial fragrance?

No artificial or synthetic fragrance materials are used in the cleansing powder. The fragrance is made up of 3 essential oils.

  • Is your product biodegradable?

Yes, all raw materials used are readily biodegradable.

  • Is your packaging BPA free?

Yes. Our product packaging is food-grade PETG.

  • What is the fragrance in your cleansing powder?

There are no synthetic compounds used to make up the fragrance. The fragrance is composed of 3 essential oils: Black Spruce, Virginian Cedarwood and Ylang Ylang essential oils. The formulation levels of all 3 essential oils are in accordance with IFRA and lower than the restriction levels for standard bar soap.

  • Is the packaging recyclable?

Our bottles are currently made from PETG which can be recycled with specialist recycling services. As the bottle label needs to be water-resistant it is not recyclable. The box, box filler and mailer label are all recyclable. As we grow we will continue to look for ways to improve our packaging sustainability.

  • Does the product contain palm oil?

No. One of the criteria in selecting our raw materials was that they were not derived from palm. We reviewed RSPO and mass balance options but decided on selecting raw materials that were not derived from palm to enable us to provide blanket assurance to our customers.

  • Does the product contain no-no materials?

Our product is formulated for functionality, to smell awesome and with ethical considerations. In addition, some ingredients were ruled out if they were likely to cause irritation or adverse reactions. For those of you that find comfort in the form of free-from lists, here's ours. Please note we do not test for the presence of these impurities but we can assure you we do not add any of the below raw materials, compounds, or chemicals to our products:
Silicones | petrochemicals | alcohol | parabens | phthalates | polyethylene glycols (PEGs) | sulfates | phenoxyethanol | nitrosamines | formaldehyde | dioxanes | dyes | phosphates | triclosan | mineral oil | synthetic musks (POPs) | ethanolamines | perfluoroalkyl and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) | isothiazolinones | palm oil or palm oil derivatives | animal products | artificial fragrances

  • How strong is the fragrance?

It is a wash product so the essential oil blend that creates the fragrance sits more around eau de toilette levels not eau de parfum (we don't want any misconceptions here). But it does smell great (well we think so).
